The Rose of Tralee International Festival 2018 (RTÉ One, 8pm)

Dozens of women of Irish descent compete for the title in Kerry’s Festival Dome. There’ll be a break at 9pm for the news, but the show will continue at 9.35pm.

Dwarfs in Art: A New Perspective (BBC Four, 9pm)

Presented by Richard Butchins, a disabled film-maker, this documentary explores the shifting societal attitudes towards people with dwarfism through centuries of their representation in art and culture. The film shows how people with dwarfism were previously seen as “royal pets”, creatures from a separate race, figures of fun and freaks. It looks at how their lives have been uniquely intertwined with mythology in the popular imagination. Professor Tom Shakespeare, who has dwarfism, speaks about how strongly he feels about representation in art and the history of disability.

The Pope and I – Our Lives (BBC One, 7.30pm)

At the end of this month, Pope Francis will be the second pontiff to visit Ireland. Ahead of his visit, this programme explores the people’s relationship with the papacy and how it has changed over the last century.
